Antique Native American Iroquois
Haudenosaunee Mohawk Ceder Water Drum with Heart stick..
Condition is Used.
Made in 1960s or early late 60s and refinished with new materials. This water drum has been in my family for over 60 years. I have 11 drums but this one was given to me by my great uncle Warren back in 1989. Used in traditional venues such as line dance, smoke dance, rabbit dance and in weddings or non focus false face ceremony. The water drum is made of solid 600 to 800 year old cedar tree and is the heart of the tree. It has a standard drip plug and thin hide used to be muskrat but this one was made with thinked brain tan buck. the new hoope was made from a coffee can and wrapped with old linen. When tuned the drum gives off a very unique lower base drum sustained sound unlike anything herd in modern instruments. Im sad to let it go but i need to find a new home for it.
It comes with a wampum shell used for scraping the head and a strand of wampum beads that come with it along with the purple heart wood stick.
