This is an Original Red Ute / Edward Bent Box Sr. Traditional Handmade Indian Flute. The flute has a label that says that it is made of Aspen wood and has a white totem attached on top. This flute is signed ""RU" and retains it's original tag. The flute has leather strips attached and is a 5 hole marked Key of E. This flute appears new and unused. The flute measures approximately 24 inches long and 1-1/4 inches in diameter. The totem measures approximately 1-3/4 inches long, 1/2 inch wide and 1 inch tall. This flute is one of the last remaining original pieces purchased from the maker's estate. Please see photos.
Edward Bent Box / Red Ute - his Indian Name, (April 1, 1920 - September 18, 2012) was a Traditional Spiritual Leader of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and member of the Moache-Capote Bands of the Ute Nation.
One of his greatest passions was traditional Indian flute-making. He was a member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Assn. (IACA), Southern Highland Craft Guild, and the International Native American Flute Assn. (INAFA).
